the city doesn’t know us

moving along our weary paths
created by the future
cheerful façade, so shallow
like water droplets on flat sidewalks

and, unbeknownst to either of us
is that the other stalks the living nights while
I, new, float in the sallow sun
and the city doesn’t know me enough to
create avenues to you

so we drift on

never knowing real happiness
in this soulless midnight town
